Sumi planted her mother´s Bios Urn with a Bougainvillea tree
Every few months we check in with our customers to see how they are doing, and how their Bios Urn is growing. Sumi replied to one of our recent email´s, and sent us a photo of a beautiful tree. Along side her photo, she stated: ¨This is how amazing it has been. Thank you all…¨
We asked for her permission to share her and her mother´s story with the world, and Sumi was more than happy to participate and share her story.
Olga wanted to return to nature
Sumi used a Bios Urn with a Bougainvillea tree to honor her mother. She planted the Bougainvillea in a terracotta planter, in her home in Miami, Florida. Every day, she steps outside and is greeted by the bright Bougainvillea tree, and it´s blooming fuchsia flowers.
Sumi´s mother, Olga Orta, passed away in 2016, and one of her last wishes was to have her ashes spread into a forest, or to return to nature in one way or another. While Sumi didn´t initially know what to do for her mother, she knew that traditional burial was out of the question.
When Sumi discovered the Bios Urn, she knew it was the perfect thing to do for her mother. She ended up ordering a Bios Urn, and went on to choose a beautiful Bougainvillea tree – which was an easy decision, because it was one of her mother´s favorites. She planted in 2016, on her mother´s birthday, March 31st It was special to mark the day with her mother´s day of birth, as it was in some ways a celebration of her life.
“It’s not only helping the environment but it’s so nice to see your loved one grow into this beautiful tree,” she said. “It’s kind of like they are still alive in a physical form. It’s amazing to see how much she’s grown.”
Olga´s Bios Urn was planted in a terracotta planter, which is a wonderful place to plant the Bios Urn. Many people don´t know it can be used with any kind of planter, so long as the size is suitable. We are thankful for Sumi, and people like Sumi who took a chance on the Bios Urn, a seemingly new product, simply because it resonated with them on a personal level. As we´ve mentioned in other posts, we always find it amazing to see the trees that people choose, and the places they choose to plant them – as these are highly personal decisions, and no Bios Urn is really the same.
Each Bios Urn planting is unique
Each planting, each location, is specific to the individual and family, and no two Bios Urns in the world are the same. That´s the beauty of these stories, there is a sense of autonomy and choice. Sumi left off her last email to us, saying this: ¨It is truly nice of you to get my mom’s Bios Urn story out to the world in hope many others may consider doing such a wonderful thing with their loved ones ashes.¨
Heidi the Great Dane was planted in a Bios Urn with a Cocktail Tree
Heidi was planted in a Bios Urn with a Citrus Cocktail Tree
What many people don´t know is that the Bios Urn is not just for people, it´s also for pets. When a pet passes away, it can sometimes be extremely difficult trying to find a way to honor them in a respectful and compassionate way. Recently, we got in touch with Robert Cleaver, a young man from Florida who shared a really touching story about his best friend of 7 years – his great Dane, Heidi.
Robert rescued his beautiful great dane in 2009 from the Humane Society in Tampa. He was able to save her just in time, as she was scheduled to be put down. Over the years, Heidi remained Robert´s trusty companion and most faithful friend – seeing him through divorce, loss, and relocations. Robert told us that Heidi even managed to play a part in connecting him with his wife, whom he married after a chance encounter which involved Heidi.
Robert said goodbye to Heidi on May 12th, 2016, after nearly 7 years together. He described it as one of the worst days of his life, and expressed how much he misses her.
After Heidi passed away, Robert was searching for the perfect way to keep her memory going. He felt like doing something special to honor Heidi, and the companion she had been to him over the past decade of his life. During his search, he discovered the Bios Urn for pets. Robert ended up choosing a Bios Urn, and selected a unique Cocktail Tree which produces Key Limes and Meyer´s Lemons at the same time. He planted Heidi´s Bios Urn in a planter in his home.
Heidi´s spirit will always be around. This tree will provide a living memory every day and I look forward to toasting her with limes pulled from our tree.
