Description

What is a Bios Urn?

The world’s first biodegradable tree urn, brought to Australia by Soul Trees and known as Bios Urn, is an entirely environmentally friendly urn. It uses the ashes of our loved ones to grow either a tree or flowers. It can be planted outdoors in your garden, in a plant pot, or in a Memorial Park. The urn has no expiry date, so you can use it with either recent or old ashes whenever you are ready.

Can plants grow in human ashes?

You might have heard that planting directly in cremation ashes won’t work because the tree won’t survive. Is this a myth or truth?
Well, it’s absolutely true, and below, we will explain how and why the Bios Urn was specifically designed to prevent this and allow us to become trees in the afterlife.

While human ashes contain nutrients that plants need, such as phosphate (48%), calcium (25%), sulphate (11%), and potassium (3%), they also have a very high pH level, which can be harmful to many plants. The Bios Urn features a patented double-component design with two distinct sections (bottom and upper) that allows for the healthy growth of a tree, flower, or plant even when planted in cremation ashes. The lower part of the urn holds the ashes separately from the seedlings, especially during the first 3 months of growth to prevent the high pH levels in ashes from harming or hindering growth. The amount of ashes placed in the urn will not compromise the delicate nutrient balance required for plant growth. Over time, the ashes will mix with the soil where the urn was planted, allowing the seedling’s roots to grow exactly as a normal plant would.

To plant your seedlings, place them in the top section of the urn. Then, you can plant the urn directly into your garden or a plant pot. With some basic care, your seedling will grow into a healthy living memorial to your loved one. You can even create a multi-generational memorial by using plants that self-seed.

Planting Soul Trees in memory of our loved ones is a beautiful and enduring tribute that transforms loss into new life, reminding us that their legacy lives on for present and future generations to cherish.
